Morning folks,
Struggling to track down a 28T gear for my metric thread dial indicator. I found the drawings in this thread: viewtopic.php?t=2028&sid=dd56192cd7ea05 ... 3e97080c64 which is really helpful and I can buy a straight cut version off the shelf from HPC Gears just down the road from me but the Denford gears have a helix angle to them so would need to be a custom order. I've also tried Tony at lathes.co.uk with no luck.
I found various old threads with folk making / selling them but nothing current - is there anywhere to buy such a thing without it being a special order (initial guess was that it would be >£100 for a single gear)?
Just had a quote back from a local (recommended) gear manufacturer. £165 for a single gear so I'll be reversing the saddle up for those threads my dial indicator won't work for (like M12 which I typically had to cut earlier)!!
Some years ago I had a Denford lathe, now sold unfortunately, and like you I found it difficult to source gears for the thread dial indicator. In those days I had decent gear cutting equipment so I made some with a few extra in case other folk needed any. As luck would have it, I still have a 28T and a 30T!
So, where are you (I'm near Worcester, UK) and would you like it sent?
Rgards Richard Wilson.
